If you wish to book a trip to see the world famous and unique gorilla families in Rwanda, you will need both an official permit and transport to get to the reception site, which is about 2-hour drive from Kigali. The contact between habituated gorilla families and tourists is strictly monitored, limiting the number of permits per day. The permits often sell out months in advance and it is strongly advised that you book your excursion as early as possible, either online or via a tour operator.
Please note that participants to conference can benefit permit discounts: you will need the proof of registration to unlock the discount. If you book via tour operators, they will take care of your transport as well as your permit. Most tour operators can customise tour packages and offer different itineraries that include gorilla trekking.
